Watch Winders
A watch winder keeps an automatic running when it is not on your wrist. That is all it does. If you wear the same watch every day, you do not need one — we would rather say so than sell you one.
Stillwood lists fourteen winders in four ranges: walnut veneer (Whitmore, Camborne, Kingsley, Ravenscourt), stitched PU leather (Hadley, Harcourt), the low and wide Marlow, and the touchscreen Belgrave cabinets from two to nine watches. Every one comes with free 30-day returns and free UK delivery in 5 to 8 business days. All prices include UK VAT.
The three things people worry about
“Will it keep me up at night?”
The motor sits in the base or behind the rotor, and every programme turns for one or two minutes, then rests for several minutes. We are measuring ours with a meter at one metre and will publish the figure rather than write “silent”. If it is louder than you expected, the 30-day return covers that too.
“The motor will die after a year.”
The failure people describe on every forum, at every price. It is why the walnut and Harcourt pages name their motor, a Japanese Mabuchi A+ with copper windings and overheat protection and why every other page tells you how its motor rests. If anything is wrong when it arrives, we repair, replace or refund, and we pay the postage.
“Will it magnetise or overwind my watch?”
The motor sits in the base or behind the rotor, the watch rests on the cushion, and the field does not reach the movement. Overwinding is not possible: an automatic’s mainspring slips once fully tensioned. The long answer is here.
