Description

Two automatics that want different settings, in a walnut case narrow enough for a bookshelf. Each rotor on the Camborne has its own two dials, so a 650-turn Rolex and an 800-turn Omega can live one above the other and each get exactly what it asks for, behind a glass door with an LED strip.

Motor and settings

A Japanese Mabuchi A+ motor in the base, on a roller bearing, with copper windings and an overheat cut-out. Each rotor has its own two dials: 650, 750, 850, 1,000 or 1,900 turns a day, and clockwise, anticlockwise or alternating, with rest cycles between winds. The 360° memory-foam cushions fit the vast majority of automatic watches.

The three things people worry about

Answered the way we would answer them by email.

“Will it keep me up at night?”

The Mabuchi motor sits in the base on a roller bearing, and every programme turns for two minutes, then rests for four to thirteen minutes depending on the setting, so most of the night it is not turning. We are measuring ours with a meter at one metre and will publish the figure rather than write “silent”. If it is louder than you expected on your bedside table, the 30-day return covers that too.

“The motor will die after a year.”

That is the failure people describe on every forum, at every price. It is why we name the motor, a Japanese Mabuchi A+ with copper windings, a roller bearing and overheat protection. If anything is wrong when it arrives, we repair, replace or refund, and we pay the postage.

“Will it magnetise or overwind my watch?”

Every electric motor has magnets; what matters is distance. Ours is in the base, the watch rests above it on the cushion, and the field does not reach the movement. Overwinding is not possible: an automatic’s mainspring slips once fully tensioned. The long answer is here.

Noise is being measured on our own samples, with a meter, at one metre. The figure will be published here when it is in. Until then we name the motor rather than guess at a number.

Setting it up

The right setting for your watch

From the two-watch up, each rotor has a dial for 650, 750, 850, 1,000 or 1,900 turns a day, clockwise, anticlockwise or alternating; the one-watch Whitmore runs four fixed programmes instead. Start from the lowest figure that keeps your watch running. If your movement is not in the table, email us the reference and we reply with the setting.

Questions

Everything people ask before they buy

Will it fit my watch?

Every Stillwood winder has 360° elastic memory-foam cushions that adapt to almost any case size or strap length, so it fits the vast majority of automatic watches without adjustment. For an unusually large case or a short strap, email us the reference before you order and we will check.

How do I set it up?

Plug the USB-DC cable into any USB charger or power bank, place each watch on its cushion and slide the cushion into the rotor. Each rotor has two small dials: one for turns per day (start at 650 unless your watch's maker says otherwise) and one for direction (alternating suits almost every movement). That is all: the winder runs its cycle and rests between winds on its own.

How many turns per day does my watch need?

Most automatic movements need between 650 and 800 turns a day; a few ask for more. The table on this page gives the usual starting points for Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Seiko, ETA and Sellita calibres, and each rotor can be set to 650, 750, 850, 1,000 or 1,900. If your movement is not listed, email us the reference and we reply with the setting.

Will it damage or magnetise my watch?

No. Every electric motor contains magnets; what matters is distance. The Mabuchi motor sits in the base, the watch rests above it on the cushion, and the field does not reach the movement. Overwinding is not possible either: an automatic's mainspring is designed to slip once it is fully tensioned.

Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?

The motor runs on a roller bearing and every programme turns for two minutes, then rests for four to thirteen minutes depending on the setting, so most of the night it is not turning. We are measuring ours with a meter at one metre and will publish the figure rather than write “silent”. If it is louder than you expected on your bedside table, the 30-day return covers that too.

Does it need mains power?

No. A universal USB-DC cable is included and works from any USB phone charger or power bank you already own, so there is no region-specific plug and nothing to buy. A mains adapter is not supplied.

Is it in stock, and how fast does it ship?

Yes. Orders are dispatched within 48 hours on business days and delivered in 5 to 8 business days, tracked to your door, anywhere in the United Kingdom.

How much is delivery, and is there anything to pay on arrival?

Delivery is free across the UK. The price you see includes UK VAT and there is nothing to pay to the courier. Full delivery policy.

What if I change my mind?

Send it back within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, for any reason. Email us, we send a prepaid label, and the refund reaches your original payment method within 14 days of our receiving the item. This sits on top of your legal 14-day right to cancel. Full returns policy.

What if it arrives damaged or stops working?

Email hello@stillwood.uk with your order number and a photo or a short video. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 a faulty winder is repaired, replaced or refunded at our cost, and we pay the return postage.

Can I send it as a gift?

Yes. Email us your order number and we keep the invoice out of the parcel. The 30-day return window runs from delivery, so a gift that misses can come back.

Do you deliver outside the United Kingdom?

Not at the moment. We deliver to addresses in the United Kingdom only, and every price is in pounds sterling.

How can I pay?

By card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay or PayPal, on Shopify's secure checkout. See our payment page.
