Gifts for Watch Lovers

Everything here is under £150, and that is the price paid — UK VAT and delivery are already in it. Nothing to work out at checkout, and no charge at the door.

The Hadley single winder, £99.90, in stitched PU leather in black, blue or brown, with a USB-C socket so it runs from the charger they already own. The Whitmore, £99.90, in genuine black walnut veneer with a Japanese Mabuchi A+ motor.

Best suited to someone who already owns two or more automatics and rotates between them. If they wear one watch every day, a winder will not add much — see our guide on whether a watch winder is actually needed.

Free 30-day returns on every order, so a gift that misses can come back. Free UK delivery, 5 to 8 business days.

Before you buy

The three things people worry about

“Will it keep me up at night?”

The motor sits in the base or behind the rotor, and every programme turns for one or two minutes, then rests for several minutes. We are measuring ours with a meter at one metre and will publish the figure rather than write “silent”. If it is louder than you expected, the 30-day return covers that too.

“The motor will die after a year.”

The failure people describe on every forum, at every price. It is why the walnut and Harcourt pages name their motor, a Japanese Mabuchi A+ with copper windings and overheat protection and why every other page tells you how its motor rests. If anything is wrong when it arrives, we repair, replace or refund, and we pay the postage.

“Will it magnetise or overwind my watch?”

The motor sits in the base or behind the rotor, the watch rests on the cushion, and the field does not reach the movement. Overwinding is not possible: an automatic’s mainspring slips once fully tensioned. The long answer is here.
