Description
One automatic, kept running on a walnut cube 15 cm square. The Whitmore is the winder for the watch you take off on Friday and want on time on Monday: one rotor, a Japanese Mabuchi motor in the base, four programmes on one dial, and nothing to plug in but a USB cable you already own.
- Capacity: One watch
- Dimensions: 15 x 15 x 15 cm (5.9 x 5.9 x 5.9 in)
- Weight: 2.1 kg (4.6 lb)
- Movement: Japanese Mabuchi A+ grade motor: roller bearing, pure copper windings, overheat cut-out
- Programmes: Four on one dial: clockwise, anticlockwise, alternating (two minutes turning, six resting), or a long-rest programme (five minutes each way for three hours, then nine hours off)
- Turns per day: Not adjustable on the single. The gentle programme suits most everyday automatics; if your movement needs a specific higher figure, the two-watch Camborne has a turns-per-day dial for each rotor

- Finish: Genuine black walnut veneer exterior, ABS + MDF interior in black or cream
- Base: 3M anti-slip silicone feet

- Compatibility: The vast majority of automatic watches; email us the reference if yours is unusually large or has a short strap
- Includes: USB-DC cable, bilingual manual, watch cleaning cloth
Delivery
Delivery is free everywhere in the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, the Highlands and the Islands. Orders are dispatched within 48 hours on business days and arrive in 5 to 8 business days, tracked; the tracking number is emailed to you when the parcel ships. UK VAT is included in the price and there is nothing to pay on arrival. Read the full delivery policy.
Returns
You have 30 days from delivery to return a winder for any reason, including changing your mind. Email hello@stillwood.uk with your order number; we reply within one business day with a prepaid label, so the return costs you nothing. The full price goes back to your original payment method within 14 days of our receiving the item. This sits on top of your legal 14-day right to cancel, which nothing here reduces. If something arrives damaged or develops a fault, we repair, replace or refund at our cost. Read the full returns policy.
Motor and settings
A Japanese Mabuchi A+ motor in the base, on a roller bearing, with copper windings and an overheat cut-out. One dial, four programmes: clockwise, anticlockwise, alternating, or a long-rest programme, with rest cycles between winds. The 360° memory-foam cushion fits the vast majority of automatic watches.
Not sure it fits your watch, or whether one of the four programmes suits your movement? Email us.
The three things people worry about
Answered the way we would answer them by email.
“Will it keep me up at night?”
The Mabuchi motor sits in the base on a roller bearing, and every programme turns for two minutes, then rests for six, so most of the night it is not turning. We are measuring ours with a meter at one metre and will publish the figure rather than write “silent”. If it is louder than you expected on your bedside table, the 30-day return covers that too.
“The motor will die after a year.”
That is the failure people describe on every forum, at every price. It is why we name the motor, a Japanese Mabuchi A+ with copper windings, a roller bearing and overheat protection. If anything is wrong when it arrives, we repair, replace or refund, and we pay the postage.
“Will it magnetise or overwind my watch?”
Every electric motor has magnets; what matters is distance. Ours is in the base, the watch rests above it on the cushion, and the field does not reach the movement. Overwinding is not possible: an automatic’s mainspring slips once fully tensioned. The long answer is here.

Noise is being measured on our own samples, with a meter, at one metre. The figure will be published here when it is in. Until then we name the motor rather than guess at a number.
The Whitmore runs four fixed programmes. From the two-watch up, every rotor has its own dial.
Most everyday automatics are happy on the Whitmore's gentle programme. If your movement asks for a precise figure, or you rotate between two watches with different needs, the Camborne gives each rotor its own turns-per-day and direction dials for £90 more.
Everything people ask before they buy
Will it fit my watch?
Every Stillwood winder has 360° elastic memory-foam cushions that adapt to almost any case size or strap length, so it fits the vast majority of automatic watches without adjustment. For an unusually large case or a short strap, email us the reference before you order and we will check.
How do I set it up?
Plug the USB-DC cable into any USB charger or power bank, place the watch on its cushion and slide it into the rotor. One dial gives you four programmes: clockwise, anticlockwise, alternating, or a long-rest programme. Alternating suits almost every movement. The winder runs its cycle and rests between winds on its own.
Does the Whitmore have a turns-per-day setting?
No. The Whitmore runs four fixed programmes, and its gentle cycle suits most everyday automatics. If your movement asks for a precise turns-per-day figure, or you rotate between two watches with different needs, the two-watch Camborne gives each rotor its own turns-per-day and direction dials.
Will it damage or magnetise my watch?
No. Every electric motor contains magnets; what matters is distance. The Mabuchi motor sits in the base, the watch rests above it on the cushion, and the field does not reach the movement. Overwinding is not possible either: an automatic's mainspring is designed to slip once it is fully tensioned.
Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?
The motor runs on a roller bearing and every programme turns for two minutes, then rests for six, so most of the night it is not turning. We are measuring ours with a meter at one metre and will publish the figure rather than write “silent”. If it is louder than you expected on your bedside table, the 30-day return covers that too.
Does it need mains power?
No. A universal USB-DC cable is included and works from any USB phone charger or power bank you already own, so there is no region-specific plug and nothing to buy. A mains adapter is not supplied.
Is it in stock, and how fast does it ship?
Yes. Orders are dispatched within 48 hours on business days and delivered in 5 to 8 business days, tracked to your door, anywhere in the United Kingdom.
How much is delivery, and is there anything to pay on arrival?
Delivery is free across the UK. The price you see includes UK VAT and there is nothing to pay to the courier. Full delivery policy.
What if I change my mind?
Send it back within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, for any reason. Email us, we send a prepaid label, and the refund reaches your original payment method within 14 days of our receiving the item. This sits on top of your legal 14-day right to cancel. Full returns policy.
What if it arrives damaged or stops working?
Email hello@stillwood.uk with your order number and a photo or a short video. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 a faulty winder is repaired, replaced or refunded at our cost, and we pay the return postage.
Can I send it as a gift?
Yes. Email us your order number and we keep the invoice out of the parcel. The 30-day return window runs from delivery, so a gift that misses can come back.
Do you deliver outside the United Kingdom?
Not at the moment. We deliver to addresses in the United Kingdom only, and every price is in pounds sterling.
How can I pay?
By card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay or PayPal, on Shopify's secure checkout. See our payment page.
A prepaid label, for any reason, including changing your mind.
